“The impact of bubbles on efficiency”
Alexander Babich is a Postdoctoral Researcher at Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR), leading experimental studies on electrolytic gas-bubble dynamics at microelectrodes. He earned his Dr.-Ing. in Chemical Engineering from TU Dresden with a dissertation titled “On the dynamics of electrolytic gas bubbles at microelectrodes”, and holds M.Sc. and B.Sc. degrees in Heat and Nuclear Power Engineering from Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University. His expertise in heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and electrochemistry is complemented by advanced skills in particle image velocimetry, Schlieren imaging, and high-speed videography, including zero-gravity experiments during the 39th DLR parabolic flight campaign. At HZDR, he collaborates across disciplines to elucidate bubble nucleation, growth, and detachment processes and to translate laboratory insights into scalable energy conversion technologies.
